ABOUT US

In Hawaii, aloha is in everything we do. Respect for and care of kupuna or elders is a primary value among all the cultures that make up the rich fabric of Hawaii. So it is not surprising that one of Hawaii's oldest skilled nursing care centers called itself Hale Makua, Home of Respected Elders, when it opened its doors in 1946.

Six years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and two years after the Allied Victory, concerned citizens on Maui founded Hale Makua as a non-profit corporation to provide skilled nursing care for elders who had no family, as well as for those who had no means to pay for care. Those who created Hale Makua knew of the importance of environment in caring for our elders, and built Hale Makua, Wailuku in a lush garden setting.

Hale Makua has expanded to include two locations, 378 beds surrounding beautifully-maintained courtyards where residents can enjoy continental breakfasts, card games, conversation, and year-round, nearly perfect weather. Hale Makua is a vibrant community staffed by skilled and caring professionals. Over the intervening 60 years, Hale Makua has stayed ahead of the trends in long-term care. The wonderful surroundings and caring staff are testimony to this.

As Hale Makua's programs and services have broadened and grown, an expansion of Hale Makua's name to Hale Makua Health Services in 2008 was necessary to better convey all of our heathcare programs: Hale Makua Long-Term Care, Home Health by Hale Makua, Rehab by Hale Makua, and Adult Day Health by Hale Makua. While technology continues to advance and our name has evolved, one thing remains constant - the loving, caring attitude of our staff. You can trust Hale Makua Health Services to deliver excellence in healthcare in our home and yours.
