FUNDRAISING EVENTS

SBS Championship
Since 1999, Kapalua Maui Charities, the host organization of the event, has distributed nearly $3 million to the Maui community. Hale Makua Health Services has been selected as a designated beneficiary for the SBS Championship, formerly the Mercedes-Benz Championship. This event was held from January 4 - 10, 2010 at Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course.

Visitor Industry Charity Walk
The Charity Walk is a statewide event that occurs simultaneously on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island and Kauai on the 3rd Saturday in May. In 2009, more than 1,000 walkers on Maui raised over $266,000. Hale Makua Health Services walkers also raised $29,700, earning the most for a non-profit. Walkers are treated to food, drink and first aid at checkpoints along the walk route. All checkpoints are operated and supplied with refreshments and helpers by Hawai‘i hotels and allied organizations. Entertainment may also be provided at many checkpoints and/or at the end of the walk. Over the years, the annual walk has grown to become one of the largest single-day fundraising events by a non-profit organization in the State of Hawaii. Since its inception in 1978, over $20 million has been raised, helping hundreds of local charities throughout the State. This year's Walk will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

Pineapple Grill Kapalua Gala
Pineapple Grill at Kapalua, a member of the Cohn Restaurant Group, along with hosts Roy and Betty Sakamoto and Mitch Mitchell of Sakamoto Properties, spearheaded the Pineapple Grill Anniversary galas, which benefit Hale Makua Health Services. For the past five years proceeds from this event have benefited the Luana project, whereby Hale Makua Health Services is currently striving to move away from a medical/institutional model of care to one that is more homelike. Pineapple Grill's Fifth Anniversary Celebration will be held on May 8, 2010

'Ohana Luau
For over 20 years the Ohana Luau has been Hale Makua Health Services' signature fundraising event, the annual 'Ohana Luau, is held during the summer at Kihei Community Center, and features a traditional Hawaiian luau feast, exciting entertainment, a silent auction, and a country store.
