Celebrating Our Filipino Heritage

To outsiders we may just be a nursing home filled with elderly people. But for those that take a closer look, you will find that Hale Makua is a community similar to other communities found throughout our island home. Look even closer and you will discover neighborhoods and in these neighborhoods people representing many different ethnicities and cultures. It is important to celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of our residents in our never-ending process to create an Elder-centered community that honors our kupuna.
One such celebration took place on Friday, September 18th as we honored our Filipino heritage with a Filipino Fiesta. Our Kahului Activities staff organized the celebration. Employees from our various programs and neighborhoods entertained our kupuna with traditional songs and dances that told stories of childhood games and romance. All of our kupuna, families and staff learned a lot and enjoyed the celebration!
