Hale Makua is a unique place, not just because of the programs we offer and the diverse group we serve, or the vibrant culture we create, it unique in the way our employees become family and they commit years and years to serving our kupuna.

This past month Nutrition Services celebrated three employees for their continued service for over 20 years! Lorena Hendrickson (pictured right) started her career at Hale Makua 30 years ago as a Kitchen Helper and has been in the same position to this day. “I just love my job, which makes it really easy to come to work”, Lorena said. “Lorena always comes to work with a smile and a positive attitude”, said one of her supervisors.

Christine Fernandez (pictured left) just celebrated twenty years with Hale Makua, she started as a Kitchen Helper and was recently promoted to a Cook. “I love cooking, the food here and all the people.” Christine’s peers say she’s full of energy and always looking for ways to help.

Nora Ganotisi (pictured center) also celebrated her 20 year anniversary. She started working at Hale Makua as a Kitchen Helper when she was 25 years old, and was promoted to a Cook five years ago. “The people I work with and the residents make it easy to stay working here for so long.” Nora’s supervisors say she’s a perfectionist who takes pride in getting her job done right and in a timely manner.

Congratulations to these three ladies on over 20 years of service. We are grateful to all of our over 450 employees for their commitment to Hale Makua and our residents and clients, without you we wouldn’t be able to continue our mission of improving the well-being of those in our care.
