Kitchen Helper

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Kitchen Helper assists in food preparation and food service.  Review menus prior to preparing food items. Cuts and prepares meat, fruit, vegetables, and starches for cooking and serving in accordance with planned menus and standardized recipes. Prepares beverages for distribution.  Assists Cook in preparing meals as directed and may include preparation/assembly of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner according to resident preferences and plan of care.  Assists in preparation and service of continental breakfast and buffet dining in resident neighborhoods and dining areas.    May drive van to deliver meals to our Wailuku Campus and to return dirty trays to our Kahului Campus for cleaning as assigned.  Assists in maintaining the Kitchen and all Nutrition Services areas are clean and sanitary.  The Kitchen Helper is responsible to the Nutrition Services Supervisor and must work closely with all Nutrition Service staff.  There is frequent contact with nursing service and other department staff and residents.

Regular Part-time (+20 hrs/wk with pro-rated benefits) or Part-time (-20 hrs/wk, no benefits).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous food service experience preferred.  Basic knowledge of food preparation.  Familiar with operation of equipments used in a kitchen.  Prefer basic knowledge of special diets.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes working weekends and holidays (Note:  Nutrition Services is operational 7 days/week from 4:30 am to 8 pm).  If assigned to drive, must have a valid driver’s license, be able to drive a vehicle, and have a good driving record. 

 

 

COMPENSATION

 

Union Start Wages:   $13.74/hr.
