Activities Director Makes 45 Years of Service at Hale Makua

Teresa

Teresa Lopes is Hale Makua Kahului's Activities Director who recently celebrated her 45th year at Hale Makua. She is truly the heart of Hale Makua Kahului. Fondly known around the halls as “Mama T” by families, residents, and staff, she has done it all in her many years of service at Hale Makua.

Teresa always had a heart for the residents, and often looks for creative ways to build special moments for the residents. Maintenance Director, Mark Souza, recalls a memory of her from many years ago when Hale Makua got its first bus. “One morning Maui woke up to snow on top of Haleakala," says Mark. "We get to work and Teresa right off the bat was raiding the lost clothing bins looking for socks.  She made up her mind she was loading up residents and heading out to show them snow.  And she did just that!”

Kahului Administrator, Teana Kaho'ohanohano recalls, “I knew from day one if I was going to get staff to buy in to the changes I was making around here, I would need her support," Teana says. "She is an amazing supervisor, co-worker, supporter, mentor and friend.  I am truly blessed to have Teresa in this canoe and look forward to many, many more years with her.”
