In 1946, recognizing the need for a home on Maui for the elderly who needed care, the Maui Young Buddhist Association organized a month long community drive that raised $17,000 for building supplies. Soon after, 120 volunteers got together to begin the construction of Hale Makua’s first facility

The heart of our community still lives on to this day, and we are so thankful to our supporters who help us to carry on our mission. It has been 75 years since our foundation, and we continue to hold on to our commitment to serve the needs of our kupuna. As the aging population on Maui continues to climb, Hale Makua has set plans in motion for expansion to help meet the growing needs. What we are today and where we will be tomorrow would not be possible without the support of people like you. (Click here to watch a video of residents and staff sharing about how Hale Makua has made a positive impact on Mauiʻs community)

Help us continue our 75 year legacy of providing compassionate care to Maui’s kupuna by making a $75 donation in honor of our 75th Anniversary.  Starting June 16, 2021, the first five people to make an online donation of $75 or more will receive a limited edition Hale Makua 75th Anniversary t-shirt (winner’s will be contacted via e-mail).
