Mahalo to Walter Hester III and the entire Maui Jim ohana for your tremendous generosity and support over the past 13 years! Last night we had the privilege of being a guest at the Maui Jim International Sales Meeting where we were presented with a check for $150,000, plus $2,500 raised from proceeds from this year's first Maui Jim OceanFest.

Words cannot express our appreciation for Maui Jim and Walter. As a token of our gratitude CEO, Tony Krieg, gave Walter an original James Miller pen drawing of two parrots, which have a slight resemblance to the Maui Jim logo. James Miller has been a resident at Hale Makua since 2012 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Although his hand shakes uncontrollably due to the disease, with much determination and desire he is still able to produce beautiful drawings in vivid colors, like the one presented to Walter.

This gift helps provide care for individuals like James who can no longer live safely on their own and have no means to pay for care. Individuals like Mica, a 21 year old who was in a car accident that impaired his ability to walk and talk and now regularly attends our Adult Day Health program which, has improved his ability to walk and allows him to socialize with others instead of being at home alone during the day.

Maui Jim's gift supports individuals like Matsuko who recently celebrated her 105th birthday. And, individuals like Jean who had a stroke at the very young age of 37, which damaged her brain and ability to feed and care for herself.

James, Mica, Matsuko and Jean are just a handful of individuals that Maui Jim's and Walter's gifts have helped. Thank you to Maui Jim, especially Walter, for helping to provide them, and hundreds of other frail elderly and disabled individuals on Maui a place to be cared for.
