The Simple Pleasure of Playing Piano

Ione Rennacker can most often be found in front of her room, sitting at a small wooden table that holds her beloved Casio keyboard. She serenades her fellow residents and care partners all throughout the day, taking requests and playing whatever comes to mind. “I’ve been playing the piano since I was three years old. My mother would tell me to go play the piano while she cleaned house, and when she was finished, I could stop. I remember it feeling like hours, and it probably was, but it kept me out of her hair while she cleaned and that’s exactly why she had me do it.”

The beautiful thing about Ione playing, is that she’s never taken a lesson in her life, and she really is quite impressive. “She can hear any song, listen for a few moments and then play it on her piano, it’s really amazing”, says Emre Ozdemir, a care partner in Ilima where Ione resides. Playing the piano is a simple pleasure for Ione Rennacker and you can see on her face just how much happiness it brings her anytime you see her playing.
