When Care Homes by Hale Makua needed a new certified care home operator in 2019, employee Trisha Akahi agreed to step up to the plate to obtain the certification.  As background, Trisha started working for Hale Makua Health Services in April 2001 where she began as a Nursing Assistant at the Wailuku campus.  After obtaining her nursing degree at Maui Community College (currently University of Hawaii Maui College), she was promoted to Licensed Practical Nurse in 2007.  In March of 2017, she was promoted to Substitute Care Giver (Head of Household) for Care Homes by Hale Makua where she was responsible for the overall well-being of the care home residents, and provided direct management of the Care Home staff and oversight of the residents.

In August of 2019, Trisha began her journey towards obtaining her care home operator certificate.  She commuted to Oahu every weekend to take the required courses needed to obtain the certificate.  In November 2019, she successfully completed the three courses necessary for licensure requirements for the Department of Health Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH) Operators and obtained her certification.  As a result, in January 2020 she was promoted to Primary Care Giver (Head of Household) where she has the added responsibility serving as Care Homes by Hale Makua’s certified ARCH operator.  We appreciate Trisha for rising up to meet the needs of our Care Home.
